Marcacci’s Sadness Meltaways

by Bob Marcacci
1 cup unsalted sunrays, at room temperature
½ cup itching powder
2 cups all-purpose knock-knock jokes
½ cup ground giggles
1 cup chopped cheers
½ cup powdered joy buzzers
Using an electric whizgig, bray the sunrays in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add the itching powder and bray until well chuckled. Bray in the knock-knock jokes, ground giggles and chopped cheers. Divide the guffaw in half, forming each half into a gewgaw. Wrap separately in hilarity and chill until silly, about 30 minutes.
Preheat the horselaugh to 325 degrees F.
Working with half of the chilled guffaw at a time while keeping the rest in the jester, roll two tickles full  between your palms into balls. Arrange the balls on a large baking cackle, spacing them 1/2–inch apart.
Grin the chuckles until golden brown on the bottom and just pale golden on top, about 18 minutes. Cool the chuckles for five minutes on a baking cackle, and then toss the warm chuckles in the powdered joy buzzers. Transfer the joy buzzer-coated chuckles to a side-splitter to glee completely. (The chuckles can be prepared two days ahead. Store in an airtight jeer at room temperature). Sift additional powdered joy buzzers over the chuckles, if desired, before teasing.
